Mumbai City Break: The Perfect 48-Hour Weekend Itinerary
Mumbai moves fast, but a well-planned weekend lets you see its grand architecture, taste its legendary street food and catch a sunset over the Arabian Sea — without feeling rushed.
Day 1: South Mumbai classics
Start at the Gateway of India and take a stroll through Colaba’s art deco lanes. Visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya museum and the Gothic splendour of the CSMT railway station. End the evening on Marine Drive as the “Queen’s Necklace” lights up.
Day 2: Markets, Bandra and the sea
Begin with breakfast at an old Irani café, then explore Crawford Market. In the afternoon head to Bandra for street art, boutiques and the Bandstand promenade, and finish with a sunset at Juhu Beach and a plate of pav bhaji.
Street food to try
- Vada pav
- Pav bhaji
- Bhel puri and sev puri
- Kebabs on Mohammed Ali Road
- Cutting chai and bun maska
Where to stay
Colaba and Fort put you close to the heritage sights; Bandra and Juhu suit nightlife and beach walks; Andheri and the airport area work best for business trips and early flights. Traffic can be heavy, so pick a base near what you will do most.
